The world was a little surprised when it emerged Kim Kardashian and Kanye West had named their first child North. But it turns out no one was more surprised than the celebrity couple themselves because they had no intention of choosing that name!
Kim, who appears naked in this months GQ magazine, said in her interview that Vogue editor Anna Wintour and singer Pharrell Williams had described the name choice as "genius" after hearing rumours about the name North. And their encouragement obviously worked!
Kim, who was in London this week to pick up the Woman of the Year gong at the GQ Men of the Year Awards, told the magazine: "Kanye and I were having lunch about a year ago and Pharrell came over to us and said, 'Oh my god, are you guys really going to call your daughter North? That is the best name.' I said, 'No we're not. That's just a rumour.'
"Then a little while later Anna Wintour came over and asked the same thing. She told us, 'North is a genius name.' Kanye and I looked at one another and just laughed. I guess at that point it sort of stuck."
Firstly, where on earth were these two having lunch when they happened to bump in to the Queen of the FRow and the 'Happy' singer? Secondly, it doesn't sound like Kim and Kanye needed too much persuading over the name North.
During her interview in GQ, Kim also spoke about a possible sex tape with Kanye West and admitted if one existed she wouldn't want it to go public (like the one with Ray J that put her in the spotlight back in 2007).
She said: "My husband Kanye and I have an amazing sex life. So far as the sex tape is concerned, whether or not we've made another... If we have, it's never something I want to go public." Well that's a relief.
