In his third autobiography, he said: “The only point of writing an autobiography, or so at least it seems to me, is to be honest.

“And in this book I have been utterly candid about a period of my life in which I spent an enormous amount of time and money on cocaine powder.

“I know how stupid that is, but I also know better people than me have found themselves on the same path.”

He told comic Richard Herring he tried to kill himself while filming abroad during a recording for a podcast.

"I would go as far as to tell you that I attempted it last year, so I'm not always happy - this is the first time I've said this in public, but I thought I might as well," he said.
