With party season around the corner, there's no better time to up your nail game. Want to know which shades to make a statement in? Marks & Spencer's beauty editor Jess Clark gave us a run down of three key colour trends.

1. The lady is a vamp

"Make like Morticia and opt for deeper-than-deep shades," said Clark. Petrol-blue, dark-berry and blood-red tones are perfect for embracing the season's dramatic mood, as seen on the House of Holland, Julien Macdonald and Phillip Lim catwalks.

2. Molten metallics

Now's the time to shine with gold, silver and bronze colours. "Nothing says 'party-ready' like a metallic accent; think of your nails as an extension of your outfit," Clark explained. "Opt for light-reflective finishes with oval-shaped tips for a modern, after-dark feel."

3. Modern neutrals

The barely-there trend has been big in beauty on the catwalk and best of all, these shades never date. Try creamy caramels or soft blush pinks for an effortlessly elegant finish to your look.
