A mum has given birth to a baby boy weighing an eye-watering 14lb 11oz.

Francisco Leon Ortiz was delivered by Caesarean section at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Washington, US, on December 2.

He was so big that his dad had to run out and buy new clothes for him because he didn't fit into the newborn clothes they'd prepared.

But Francisco isn't mum Yessica Ortiz Delgado's first heavyweight infant: her two other children were about 12 lb each so she expected another large baby.

Francisco was initially in intensive care but went home on Tuesday.

Both mother and son are doing well, but Francisco will have to go back hospital for check ups.

The Birth Center at Grays Harbor Community Hospital delivers around 550 babies a year, but none as big as Francisco.

Hospital director Barbara Connett told the Grays Harbor Talk: "We deliver babies of all sizes, but it is not every day that we deliver and care for a baby as large as Francisco."

His birth came a day after Alisha Hernandez, from Colorado, gave birth to daughter Mia Yasmin Garcia, who weighed 13lb 13oz.

Her father Francisco Garcia told 9News: "The nurses all shocked that they're seeing a baby like that. They opened their eyes like they've never seen a baby like that.

"The nurse, she was shocked. She's like 'Come here! Come here! Come here!' I went and I'm like, what happened? She's like, well check out this! I checked it, and it was 13 pounds and 13 ounces."

Mr Garcia said all of the couple's other children were all born at normal weights and even the combined weight of their twins at birth was lower than Mia.
