Good news for avocado fans! A recent study shows eating one avocado a day can help to lower your cholesterol.
Time reports researchers at Pennsylvania State University put 45 overweight but healthy people aged between 21 and 70 on three specific diets - one low fat, the other two moderate fat - all designed to lower cholesterol.
One of the moderate fat diets included the daily consumption of a Hass avocado. Although all three eating plans lowered the participants' cholesterol levels, the best results were seen in the group who ate the avos.
LDL cholesterol was lowered by 13.5 milligrams per decilitre - a significantly larger drop than the 8.3 milligrams per decilitre seen in the moderate fat diet.
Although the professor in charge of the study insisted it was "more of a proof-of-concept investigation", we've just been given more reason to indulge in one of our favourite fruits. Whether making your own quac, eating it as a healthy snack, or even using it in your beauty regime this is one fruit we can't ignore.
