When one girl passed her classmate a love letter, she didn't get the reply she expected.
The unnamed 11-year-old girl had tried to make things as simple as possible for the object of her affections by asking him outright whether he liked her and providing him with two check boxes: one marked 'yes' and the other 'no'.
Unfortunately the boy in question liked to 'think outside the box'.
Proving that things can never be simple in affairs of the heart, even when the options are laid out for you in black and white, the boy sent the note back with neither box checked, but with the following message written at the bottom:
"I don't know. I don't know myself yet. Plus I'm under a lot of stress at home so, I can't tell. P.S. You don't know yourself until you're 18".
The note was shared online by a friend of the girl's mum, who is known on Reddit as Lindsrae.
Reddit users were quick to respond with advice for the lovelorn girl,
"Ahh, the sensitive, vulnerable type - your daughter has... interesting taste," wrote one. "She should make him a mix... [or a] YouTube playlist? Is that what we do now?"
While on imgur another respondent suggested that the girl's mistake was not including a 'maybe' box.
