New App Creates Invisible Boyfriends

Invisible Boyfriend is a new mobile app designed to let you fake a relationship.

You know, for those times you're inconveniently without a plus one when you really need not to be.

For $25 (£16) you can download the app, create a boyfriend/girlfriend (their name, age, photo, personality) and receive 100 text messages, 10 voicemails, a hand-written note and photos as social proof that you're with someone.

Creepy or kind of genius?

Building an imaginary partner sounds like a lot of effort to go to, but when you're in a rebound situation this app could be your best friend.

You literally have the (fake) proof that you've moved on right there on your mobile.

Creator, Matthew Homann, told Valley Wag he bought the domain name invsibleboyfriend.com and invisiblegirlfriend.com nine years ago when he came up with the idea following is divorce.

So, who's already got the app? Homann says users include people who want to practice being in a relationship, gay people who haven't come out to family or friends and people who need to pretend they're with someone.

We've all been that only single person on a night out before and we've all had friends grilling us over whether we're seeing anyone - and now there's Invisible Boyfriend, for when we really need to fake it.
