DJ Zane Lowe is leaving Radio to join Apple.
It is thought Lowe will work with Apple on a relaunch of the Beats Music streaming service it bought with the headphone maker last year, or a new focus on iTunes Radio… or both.
The tech press has speculated that Lowe may be involved in curating music, or working with musicians on ways to promote their work through the service.
The reality is no one knows what title Lowe will hold at Apple when he moves to the US with his family next month.
Lowe, whose last show will air on Thursday March 5, said: "I want to thank everyone at Radio 1 - for their support and friendship. The station has allowed me to share incredible music with the country's best music fans - I've loved every minute of it. Exciting times lie ahead."
Annie Mac will replace him from March 9, saying it was a "huge honour" and she "can't wait" to start.
