In 1932, a very strange vehicle was doing the rounds of the motoring shows and fairs. It was an enormous wheel, powered by a large noisy engine and looking unlike anything anyone had seen before.
Except we had actually seen it before. The Dynasphere was originally inspired from a sketch by Leonardo da Vinci and while da Vinci lacked a motor, this prototype certainly didn't.

Capable of up to 30mph it's a testament to technological innovation and engineering and while it had its drawbacks (it was almost impossible to steer), the design has become a standard for car manufacturers when they're looking to try something new.
