Hats Off To Queen Curtsey Girl

Hats Off To Queen Curtsey Girl

A six-year-old girl had her hat knocked off by a saluting soldier just moments after presenting a posy to the Queen.

Maisie Gregory was left holding her face after being hit by the lance corporal at a Colours Parade for the Royal Welsh Regiment in Cardiff.

Wearing traditional Welsh dress, Maisie curtseyed for the Queen at the Millennium Stadium before handing her a colourful bunch of flowers.

Video emerged of the entire incident, which showed Maisie nervously holding on to the rim of her outfit as the Queen turned away and the right hand of the soldier glanced across her face.

According to WalesOnline, the lance corporal apologised to Maisie as soon as the Queen had left. Maisie is understood to be the daughter of Regimental Sergeant Major Martin Gregory. Her mother Joanne said her daughter was fine and simply overcome with tiredness.

The Queen walked down the Millennium Stadium tunnel to present the Royal Welsh Regiment with their new colours in a ceremony which was the final formal recognition of The Royal Welsh - which formed in 2006 after the merger of the Royal Welch Fusiliers and the Royal Regiment of Wales.
