Murray And Ward Look To Progress

Britain's hopes of Wimbledon glory will be in the balance today as Andy Murray seeks a place in the last 16.

Murray, who won the men's singles title in 2013 and is the bookies second favourite to claim it again, will face Italy's Andreas Seppi in the third round.

He and world number 111 James Ward - who faces Canadian Vasek Pospisil today - are the only Britons remaining after Heather Watson was knocked out yesterday.

British number one Watson came within two points of eliminating 20-time grand slam winner Serena Williams with the backing of a passionate local crowd.

But she was left heartbroken when the American fought back to set up a Williams family tie with her older sister Venus in the next round.

Watson, 23, later tweeted: "Best atmosphere ever. Honestly blessed. Thank you everyone. Serena proved why she is the best. I'll be back though, I promise."

It came after an emotional day which saw players, fans and officials pay tribute to the victims of the Tunisia beach massacre with a minute's silence.

Meanwhile, defending champion Novak Djokovic gave a fan a boost - by signing his prosthetic leg.

The Serbian later suggested that it was not the first time that he has been asked to autograph a prosthetic limb.

Australia's Nick Kyrgios showed his usual fiery temper and was slapped with a code violation for bouncing his racquet into the crowd.

After today's matches the players will take a breather on Sunday before week two action gets under way.
