Lightning Strike Pair In Hospital

Two people are fighting for their lives after being struck by lightning in the Brecon Beacons, ambulance service officials said.

The pair, including a man aged in his 50s, were in a life-threatening condition after being hit at around mid-day on the Pen Y Fan mountain range in Powys, mid-Wales.

A third victim was also taken to hospital after being struck but their injuries were not life-threatening, a Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said.

He said: "We received a call at 12.04pm on Pen Y Fan in the Brecon Beacons that a male had reportedly been struck by lightning.

"We sent two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and the hazardous area response (HART) team, and an ambulance officer. Three people in total have been conveyed to Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil.

"Two were conveyed by helicopter with life-threatening injuries, and one person was conveyed by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries."
