Arriving at your own wedding in the back of a police car may not be every bride's dream - but a newlywed couple are thanking officers for saving their big day.
Dianne Hunnibell had hired a vintage Rolls Royce to take her to tie the knot at Stowmarket Registry Office in Suffolk but the classic car broke down on the way.
Suffolk Police traffic officer Pc Ian Jepp was called to the scene on the A14 and rescued the bridal party from the side of the road, taking them the remaining 15 miles to the venue.
While the unusual vehicle may have been a shock for groom Sean Hunnibell, the couple were delighted that the force helped them out.
Mrs Hunnibell, from Lakenheath, said: "It's not something you expect to happen on your wedding day.
"We got in the car and it kept stopping and starting the whole ride. It finally gave up on a fly-over.
"An officer pulled up in a police car and I asked 'will you take me to my wedding?'
"He was really sweet and went away, made a call on his radio and then came back and said 'yes.'
"There was no way otherwise that we would have been able to make it, as everyone was already at the church.
"The officer was really lovely and calm. He kept telling me not to worry."
She said her father, Peter, had enjoyed the drama.
"He was like a little boy on Christmas day when the officer turned on the blue flashing sirens," she added.
"I cannot thank Pc Jepp and Suffolk Police enough. Without them I wouldn't have got married on that day and with guests having travelled from London and all the way from America, it would have proved nearly impossible to re-organise it."
The couple have been together for three years and married on June 12. They recently contacted the force to say thank you.
Pc Jepp said his normal duties include dealing with collisions and drink drivers.
He added: "I was happy to be of assistance. It was really nice to deal with something positive for change.
"I can't say that I have ever helped a bride to get to her wedding on time before in my policing career, but it shows how diverse policing is."
"Dianne was so appreciative of our assistance and I am glad that we managed to help her to become Mrs Hunnibell. I wish them a happy future together."
