Hurt has been a major force in the world of entertainment for more than 40 years, creating a number of memorable characters in movies like The Elephant Man and The Naked Civil Servant.

He is also an acclaimed stage performer who found new fans with appearances in the Harry Potter films and the popular BBC sci-fi series Doctor Who.

Also being recognised during the Windsor Castle investiture ceremony is Major Laura Nicholson, a Chinook pilot, who will be awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
