Man Dies After Sea Rescue At Welsh Beauty Spot

A man has died and a boy needed hospital treatment after a sea rescue at a south Wales beauty spot.

Emergency crews were called to the waters in Three Cliffs Bay in Gower, Swansea, on Tuesday afternoon.

A man, who has not been identified, was taken by air ambulance to Morriston Hospital, where he later died, and a nine-year-old boy was taken to the same A&E unit by ambulance.

The incident is the second fatality this summer at the picturesque Three Cliffs Bay. In June, a 42-year-old man died after trying to rescue a boy from the sea.

Although the Gower beach is renowned for its stunning and unspoilt beauty, coastguards said it also had a notorious rip tide.

RNLI senior lifeguard manager Matt Horton said: "A rip is a strong current of water running out to sea that can quickly drag you out beyond your depth.

"They can sometimes be identified by a channel of churning, choppy water or debris on the sea's surface."

A South Wales Police spokesman said: "Police can confirm that a man has died after getting into difficulty in the sea at Three Cliffs Bay in Gower.

"Emergency services were called to the area shortly after 3pm. The man was removed from the water and taken by helicopter to Morriston Hospital.
