The X Factor viewers are to be given even more power this year - choosing for the first time which category the judges will mentor.
A live vote will take place on Twitter while the auditions are airing in which the public will decide whether Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw will mentor the Boys, the Girls, the Overs or the Groups for the rest of the series.
And the judges may soon be campaigning on social media to ask their fans to help them land the winning category - which this year appears to be the Groups.
Fernandez-Versini said: "The Groups this year are the best they have ever been. We have got three groups that I would take, right now from their first audition, straight through to the live shows and I would have no qualms about doing that. No fear."
Ora added: "For some reason the Groups are so powerful, they are literally on fire. The Girls are through the roof, so it's between those two, the Girls and the Groups. I'm putting a good word out there."
But Cowell claimed: "Are they all campaigning for the strongest category already? Interestingly, there's no weak category this year. I can see who the winner of each category could be. It could all change, we've only seen them for the first time, then the second time we see them they could be terrible. So we'll see."
The categories vote will open on Twitter during the broadcast of the first episode on ITV on Saturday August 29, and closes at 12pm on Tuesday September 1.
The judges will learn which category they have been given during filming of the six-chair challenge at the SSE Arena, Wembley.
Viewers can vote by tweeting the hashtag with the name of their chosen judge followed by the category they want to see them mentor, for example #SimonBoys #SimonGirls #SimonGroups #SimonOvers.
This series will also see the Judges' Houses round broadcast live for the first time, from four luxurious locations around the world.
