Teenager Arrested Over Fatal Stabbing In Newcastle

A 17-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 42-year-old man suffered fatal stab wounds.

Northumbria Police said a 20-year-old was also being held on suspicion of conspiracy to murder following the death in Park Avenue, Gosforth, Newcastle.

Officers were called to the residential street at 5.45am following reports that a man had been stabbed.

Paramedics also attended the scene and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment for chest injuries but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The road was cordoned off while inquiries were carried out. Extra patrols will remain in the area to reassure the public.

Superintendent Richie Jackson, of the Central Area Command, said: "We understand the concerns of the local community and extra officers are in the area to answer any questions they may have.

"This was an isolated incident and we have now made two arrests. We do not believe there is any risk to members of the wider public.

"Despite this we would still ask anyone with any information about the stabbing to get in touch as it still could help our ongoing enquiries."

Anyone who knows anything about the incident should call police on 101 extension 69191 quoting reference number 273 05/09/15. Police said they were not in a position to name the dead man.
