The Duchess of Cambridge has revealed the present she gave the Queen for Christmas when she first stayed at Sandringham over the festive period - a jar of home-made chutney.
Kate, in an interview for ITV's Our Queen at Ninety documentary, confessed to feeling nervous about selecting a gift for the royal matriarch.
"I was worried what to give the Queen as her Christmas present. I was thinking, 'Gosh, what should I give her?," the Duchess said.
"And I thought back to what would I give my own grandparents. And I thought, 'I'll make her something.' Which could have gone horribly wrong. But I decided to make my granny's recipe of chutney. I was slightly worried about it, but I noticed the next day that it was on the table."
Kate first joined the royals at Sandringham for Christmas in 2011, after marrying the Duke of Cambridge in April of that year.
She described the Queen's gesture of putting the chutney on the table as showing the monarch's "thoughtfulness" and "her care in looking after everybody."
The excerpt from Kate's first solo television interview is published in this week's Radio Times, on sale from Tuesday March 22.
Our Queen at Ninety, which celebrates the Queen ahead of her 90th birthday in April, will be broadcast on ITV on Easter Sunday, March 27, at 8pm.
:: Radio Times is launching a competition for young artists to design the front cover of the magazine to celebrate the Queen's official birthday in June.
There are three age groups – eight years old and younger; nine to 12; and 13 to 18. The winning entries in each category will be published in an edition of Radio Times in June, and the overall winner will appear on the cover of a special Queen's birthday issue.
Judges will include author and illustrator Judith Kerr and Blue Peter presenter Lindsey Russell.
