Remembrance Day Terror Plot Man Faces Jail

An Islamic State-inspired jihadist is facing jail for plotting to carry out a Lee Rigby-style beheading around Remembrance Sunday.

Nadir Syed, 23, had targeted a poppy seller or police community support officer (PCSO) before his arrest in November 2014.

He had sourced a Rambo-style knife after listening to a speech by IS spokesman Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, which also urged extremists to target France.

Following a trial at Woolwich Crown Court last year, Syed, from Hounslow, west London, was found guilty of planning a terrorist attack.

Following a retrial at the Old Bailey, his cousin Yousef Syed, 20, of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, and Haseeb Hamayoon, 29, from Hayes, west London, were acquitted of involvement.

All three defendants had denied the charge.

Nadir Syed will be sentenced by Mr Justice Saunders at the Old Bailey later.
