IThe ANC leadership on Monday was anxiously waiting in Cape Town for deputy higher education minister Mduduzi Manana to arrive so that he can explain the assault allegations levelled against him.
"Since the incident, we have been trying to get hold of him but all attempts have been fruitless," African National Congress spokesman Zizi Kodwa told HuffPost SA on Monday.
"We are hoping that he will land in Cape Town this afternoon with other members of Parliament who are coming for the [Vote of No Confidence] sitting [on Tuesday]. We are here, waiting for him. We need to talk to him."
The party had not been able to get a hold of Manana.
Kodwa said no determination had been made yet as to what disciplinary measures would be taken against him for the incident at Cubana in Fourways on Sunday night.
Twitter users have called on Police minister Fikile Mbalula to arrest and charge his comrade.
Manana is alleged to have assaulted Mandisa Duma.
In an interview with SAfm, Mandisa's brother, Phesheya Duma said she sustained bruises, a broken rib and was struggling to walk.
Mandisa took to Twitter to share photos of her injuries.
In a recording of a phone call between Manana and Phesheya, obtained by TimesLive, Manana can be heard saying: "I slapped her while we were still inside the club".
Mbalula's office has since confirmed that a case has been opened and is being investigated. His spokesperson Vuyo Mhaga told News24 that the law needs to take its course.

But tweeps were not having it.
Kodwa has condemned the incident and called for justice to be served.
"This does not represent the ANC," Kodwa told 702.
"It's unfortunate that this happened on women's month and was perpetuated by someone who is in a position of leadership. We are disappointed and concerned by the fact that he initially denied his involvement".
