A search and rescue operation will resume on Tuesday for a man swept from rocks in Cornwall.
Two men who were believed to be fishing were knocked into the water by a powerful wave at around 2.35pm on Monday.
One man was rescued and taken to hospital within minutes of a 999 call being made, but rescue teams scoured the waters off Treyarnon Bay until dusk, looking for the second.
Padstow and Newquay Coastguard Rescue Teams, Newquay and Rock RNLI Lifeboats, Treyarnon Lifeguards and the UK Coastguard search and rescue helicopter based in Newquay took part in the search effort.
Devon and Cornwall Police and South Western Ambulance Service were also present.
The search for the missing man is due to resume at 7am on Tuesday.
When asked if rescue teams still hoped to find anyone alive, a spokeswoman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: “They have been searching for a long time. They’ve done a very intensive search around the area and it’s involved a lot of resources and they haven’t found anything.
“Obviously (teams) are searching in the hope of finding somebody but they have done a very intensive search.”
