Are Keratin Treatments The Solution To Taming Frizzy Hair?

Are Keratin Treatments The Solution To Taming Frizzy Hair?

If the prospect of shaving your head is more appealing than wearing your hair down right now - I hear you, sister.

We've officially reached hair mare season (when frizzy tresses turn you into the worst version of yourself on any given day) so a whole lot of smoothing hair repair is imperative to surviving the winter months. And looking like Jessica Biel.

With that in mind, I decided to try out the salon-only K Fusion Keratin Smoothing Treatment from the L'Kerabelle range by D&L Hair to see if it lived up to its de-frizzing rep.

The treatment has an Argan oil based formula and it's 100% formaldehyde free (making it a safe for all hair types, pregnant women and those who have undergone chemotherapy). It also contains amino acids and proteins, plus the results are meant to last for up to four months.

While it sounds too good to be true, there is a downside. The whole process can take up to 2-3 hours depending on hair length - so not ideal if you're working week is insanely busy.

It starts with a clarifying shampoo, followed by a second which is left on for 10 minutes to strip any former product from your tresses. Hair is rinsed, combed through and towel dried before the K Fusion Treatment is applied (section by section) and left on for 45 minutes.

The product is then rinsed out before hair is blow-dried and straightened with hair straighteners to lock it in. Post treatment it's key to leave hair at least 24 hours before washing it, though, the longer the better.

So, did it work? If your locks need some good old fashioned TLC, this treatment will nourish, strengthen and de-frizz. I found it made my unruly hair much more manageable and as a gal who likes to wear hers poker-straight, it definitely reduced the styling time.

However, it's a lot of money to splurge on a single treatment that doesn't offer a permanent straightening fix and it's also advised that you use a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner (because salt will break down the keratin) to make it last.

I'd recommend this if you want something to restore and add shine to your hair - but if you're after super straight locks for months on end then go for a Brazilian blow out.

Prices start from £153 at ColourNation Hairdressers in London's Oxford Circus.
