Baby P's mother Tracey Connelly is demanding to be re-housed in a council flat because she claims she has 'suffered' because of the loss of her son – who she allowed to be tortured to death.

Connelly, 32, who has been living in a bail hostel in the North of England since her release from prison last October, has told friends she is desperate for a two-bedroom flat with all mod cons because it will make it easier for her to start a new relationship.

A source told the Mirror: "She is extremely demanding, and for Tracey it's all about her. She wants her own nice flat but when you come out of jail you get what you are given, but Tracey won't accept that.

"The greatest irony is that she sees herself as the victim in all of this, so expects to be looked after."

Peter was just 17 months old when in 2007 he was found dead at his mother's North London flat after suffering a catalogue of horrifying injuries.

The source added: "Anybody who has allowed their own child to be killed would normally try to keep a low profile – but not Tracey. The death of her child does not seem to have had any impact on her.

"Everyone in the area knows who she is. Despite all of the authorities' careful planning to keep her safe, she has simply told everyone who she is."

Connelly was jailed indefinitely in 2009 after she admitted doing nothing while her little boy was tortured to death by her boyfriend Steven Barker and his pedophile brother Jason Owen.

She was freed last year after a parole board found she was no longer a danger to the public.

Connelly is banned from being in the company of any child under the age of 13, but has told friends she wants her children back.

She has been allowed to write regularly to the three children she had with Peter's father.
