The best websites and digital work in the UK and Europe have been revealed as the winners of the first ever Lovie Awards were announced today in London.
It is with *GULP* a large dose of modesty that we must admit we, The Huffington Post UK are indeed the gold winner for the news category.
Judging Chair Nicholas Roope said: "We created The Lovie Awards specifically to recognise excellence across Europe and they have achieved just that. From nearly 700 entries we see 17 European countries represented in the shortlist. The winners are from 14 countries. Just like our US sister, The Webby Awards, we recognise the full range of internet practice and again, the winner list is saturated with excellence right across the spectrum."
Alernet which also took gold in the news category, and other notable fellow contenders for the prize were National Geographic and Manchester City Official iPhone App, which took out a silver Lovie Award in the same section.
The Telegraph website and iPad app and Dinheiro Vivo took bronze. The Sunday Times, Sneakerpedia, Newsy for iPad, Newsrepublic and CNET were also shortlisted.
The Lovie Awards are the UK and Europe's version of the Webby Awards that have been supporting great websites since 1996.
The name's not just about an online love-in, it honors Ada Lovelace, the first computer programmer.
700 entries were received, and all winners will get to pat each other on the back and share SEO tips at a Shoreditch shindig on November 11.
