We imagine there was LOTS of people who got engaged over Christmas and New Year, 'tis the season for romantic gestures. And for those who did get asked the big question, and said yes, there's lots of planning to do.

We don't mean to put a downer on it, after all planning your big day should be a fun process, but there are things to think about. Most importantly, YOUR DRESS!

And with each new season, comes new trends. We've scoured the bridal runways and have seen some great new wedding dress shapes for spring summer 2015. Here are a few you should keep in mind when dress shopping...

Flapper Girl Style

The vintage trend has been going strong for a few years now (from venues to rings and dresses), but this is a more honed version. Think 20's glamour: little capped sleeves, bugle beads and fringing. You could go all out with this trend and choose a vintage-inspired ring, head-piece and shoes. too.

Short Story

If you plan on getting married during the height of summer, you might want to consider a shorter dress. It doesn't have to be mini, maybe a 50s inspired A-line cut, or just below-the-knee. Make sure you team it with stand out shoes. You could also try the two-in-one dresses we've seen more of recently: long and flowy for the ceremony, then unzip the bottom to turn it into a shorter party dress.

Cut Out Delights

We don't mean Gypsy Weddings cut outs, but elegant, well-placed cut out panels. It's a good way of emphasizing your waist. If it's too much for you, there are lots of dresses now with mesh and skin-coloured panels instead of just flesh. Think elegant and sleek. Go one step further with a bridal crop top and skirt combo, for the really daring.

Back To It

So a low cut back is nothing new, but for 2015 it's all about making the back of your wedding dress the main feature. Heart shape key holes are big for the new season, more skin-coloured netting too, and don't forget the scoop back, which, when paired with amazing hair, can look super chic and gorgeous.

Show Some Leg

Angelina Jolie has made it OK to show lots of leg, and even though you might not have thought about the option to show off your pins on your big day, we can see slits becoming more and more popular. It's sexy, strong and powerful, and doesn't need to be tacky at all. If you're tall, it's a great option!

Colour Up

It's the year to experiment with coloured wedding dresses, you heard it here first. We aren't suggesting blue or green, but a dusty pink, a really light grey or a pastel colour would be effective, romantic and make for some gorgeous pictures. This would look great if you happened to have a coloured gem stone for an engagement ring, and you could set the theme of your wedding around your dress too (flowers, table centres and even the groom!).

We hope those have helped. Stay tuned for more bridal ideas soon!
