DESIGNER: Peter Copping for Nina Ricci
INSPIRATION: Using his autumn pre-collection as a template, Copping focused on portraiture, with Sargent's Madame X a big influence, as were the works of John Currin and Marlene Dumas.
TOP LOOKS: Our favourites were created in rich, dark velvets; wide-leg trousers tied with rope-like belts, while red carpet-worthy gowns that clung to the body and featured Sargent-esque dramatic necklines in clarets and bottle green. Elsewhere Copping's fragile aesthetic was apparent in delicate lace and sheer blouses that revealed the décolleté.
WHAT WE THOUGHT: This was a collection that was confident, and unapologetically feminine and romantic. Copping showed a new, sophisticated direction - and in the wake of Nicole Kidman's patronage at theScreen Actor's Guild last month, we expect to see more of Copping's designs on the red carpet very soon indeed.
