He's my son's age. But instead of clutching his book bag and sucking on a lollipop, this seven-year-old boy is smoking a cigarette and clutching a high-powered rifle.

This shocking photo has emerged from the violence in war-torn Syria.

Ahmed - the son of a rebel fighter - takes a drag from the cigarette and exhales a cloud of smoke like he's been doing it for years.

The photo was taken in front of a barricade in the neighborhood of Salahadeen, Aleppo - the front lines of the bloody Syrian civil war.

It comes as Prime Minister's wife Samantha Cameron told of her 'horror' at hearing the appalling ordeals of children who have seen parents and relatives killed in front of their eyes in Syria's bloody civil war.

On a visit to Lebanon, Mrs Cameron, who is an ambassador for Save the Children, talked to young refugees and mothers about their terrible plight.
