MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM - SEPTEMBER 2 : Michael Le Vell, who plays Kevin Webster in the TV soap Coronation Street, arrives at Manchester Crown Court to face child sex offenses on September 2, 2013 in Manchester, England. He was cleared of child sex offences last month, but Corrie star Michael Le Vell's nightmare continues as 'vigilante thugs' have attacked his car.

The Sun reports that Michael, 48, is now fearful for his life as he believes people are trying to kill him following his acquittal.

Speaking after his car was vandalised outside his home in Hale, Cheshire, on Saturday, Michael said he couldn't believe it was a 'random incident'.

"People have threatened my safety," he said, but vowed he would not be forced into hiding.

"I have a right to live my life. I won't be intimidated or threatened by faceless individuals."

Michael had been in a local pub just 200 yards from his Ford Puma when it was vandalised on Saturday. After calling the police, he hired a bodyguard to protect him 24 hours a day.

He told the Sun: "I'm innocent, so I should have no reason for people to threaten me." He said that the damage to his car was the 'act of a coward'.

The Coronation Street stalwart is about to make a return to the show after being put on leave for the duration of his court case. He has played Weatherfield mechanic Kevin Webster for 30 years since 1983.

The self-confessed alcoholic was arrested in October 2011 after allegations of sexual abuse were made against him. He was charged in February of this year, but cleared on all counts in September.

The police are currently investigating the attack on his vehicle.
