Couple Throws Ultimate Divorce Party To Finalise Split

No awkwardness here.

For some, divorce is a terrible ordeal, particularly when feelings aren’t mutual. For others, it’s a welcome change and the start of a new era.

Wanting to celebrate the positive side to divorce and banish any awkwardness among family and friends, two parents decided to throw a divorce party.

And it was the perfect way to celebrate their new beginnings.

Emma Becerra, the duo’s daughter, shared photos of the party on Twitter with the caption: “My parents’ divorce became official today so they had a divorce party.”

It wasn’t long before the snaps had been shared more than 50,000 times.

Emma’s parents, Michelle Mahoney and Jeff Becerra, were married for more than 20 years, but had decided to call time on their relationship.

The former couple had gone to great lengths to make their divorce party fun with balloons, booze, food and personalised goodies for partygoers to take away such as mugs and pens with photos of them on.

They also had a special getaway car with a ‘Just Divorced’ sticker on the back window.

Michelle told BuzzFeed that they threw the party to try and reduce any potential discomfort for family and friends.

“We wanted to divide what we had built together fairly and to keep family first. We felt that we did that and we felt that was a reason to celebrate,” she added.
