New App 'Cuddlr' Helps Users To Find Person To Cuddle

You Thought Tinder Was Bad, Meet Cuddlr

Sometimes, a cup of tea and a packet of chocolate biscuits is enough to soothe a long, tough day at the office. But other times, you just need a cuddle.

If you don't mind where the cuddle comes from (and let's face it most of us do), a new cuddle app may be able to help.

Cuddlr, "a location-based social-meeting app just for cuddling," works much like Tinder. Users sign up to Cuddlr using their Facebook profile before searching for partners.

Once they find someone they like the look of, users can send a "cuddle request." If they get a match, the app will show them the location of their partner - then, it's snuggle time.

According to Cuddlr's website, the app has nothing to do with romance or sex - it's all about good, clean human contact.

The app's introduction states: "Cuddlr is a way of finding people near you who are up for a cuddle, without any pressure or expectation.

"Our culture doesn't have a space for closeness without pressure. The way we talk about meeting and sharing space and contact with someone assumes that it's centered explicitly around sex and dating, or based on the kind of affection a parent might show a child.

"We're not getting the right type of contact often enough; we don't give and get enough hugs."

At first glance, the app seems innocent enough, but after reading Radhika Sanghani's review for Telegraph Wonder Women, we're not so sure.

After sending out "cuddle requests" to women during the day and not finding any matches, Radhika was "inundated with requests overnight."

She writes: "I went to bed cuddle-less. Only, I was inundated with requests overnight, particularly between the hours of 10pm and 3am. All were from men. Late night cuddling with strange guys? Isn't that just another way of saying 'booty call'?"

Our thoughts exactly....

Cuddlr's founder Charlie Williams insists he doesn't want people to use the app for sex in his article for Medium, but perhaps the great British public just aren't ready for no-strings hugging.
