Guillotine Simulator: Oculus Rift Virtual Reality Headset Used To Recreate Executions (VIDEO)

Oculus Rift VR Headset Turned Into 'Guillotine Simulator'
|

An unexpected and chilling - but also strangely intriguing - use of the Oculus Rift VR headset has seen a team of developers build a guillotine execution simulator.

The prototype device uses two HD screens to create an exceptionally immersive 3D experience for anyone wearing the headset.

The guillotine 'game' places the wearer in the position of a convict awaiting execution.

By looking around at the crowd, the machine itself and the sky you get the feeling of waiting for your swift demise - and then the sensation of the blade hitting your neck (actually provided by somebody hitting you in time with the sound).

It was built by a team of three at the Exile jam in Denmark - Erkki Trummal, who is from Estonia, André Berlemont (French) and Morten Brunbjerg, who is Danish. A version of the game can be downloaded for Windows here, if you're lucky enough to have an Oculus Rift developer's kit.

According to Geek.com, the experience is pretty powerful - take a look above.
