Girl With Down's Syndrome Saves 3-Year-Old From Drowning

A 12-year-old girl with Down's Syndrome has been praised for saving her three-year-old sister's life after the toddler nearly drowned.

Carin Richardson, 12, and her sisters, Krystal and Jac'Lynn had been swimming in the family's back garden when they decided it was time to dry off and head indoors.

But Carin decided she wanted to do a few more lengths and headed back outside to swim some more.

Unbeknown to her, little sister Jac’Lynn had followed Carin into the gated swimming area, attempted to climb into the centre of her rubber ring and had fallen through the hole - straight to the bottom of the pool.

Carin Richardson, 12, saved her sister's life.

Watching the scene unfold from the house, Carin's mother Tomarra told ABC News: "Without panic or fear, [Carin] grabbed her goggles, got in the water and pulled her sister out of the pool and into the house."

Back in the house, Tomarra managed to get her daughter to cough up the pool water while another sister called the emergency services.

A trip to the hospital helped calm the worried mother down, doctors revealed that little Jac’Lynn was fine.

"She [Carin] is our hero," said Tomarra after the ordeal. "She saved her sister's life and she did a really, really, really good job."

Jac’Lynn Richardson, 3, could have drowned, had it not been for her sister.
