This is my mum on a family holiday to India 3 years ago and she is my inspirational woman. Compared to many other women I don't suppose she would appear much different but to me she is outstanding. Everyday she puts up with me and my Dad, the daily stresses of work and bills and appointments as well as coping with lymphedema as a result of her fight with breast cancer 13 years ago. She supports me in my decisions and ambitions and I couldn't think of a woman I would rather have as my mother more.

My daughter was a very chubby child, and I a very large adult, when she achieved her University degree and lost weight it inspired me to lose 7 stone and attend day school for computing in my retirement. I love her dearly she's my inspiration.

We very nearly lost her and she spent a week in ITU, yet less than 4 months later she is driving again! Even the surgeon says she is a walking miracle. Doesn't matter when or what i know can lift the phone and she always gives me sound advice. We may live 300 miles apart but as close as a mother and daughter should be in our hearts

My partner Terrie is my true inspiration in life; two years ago I lost my job through redundancy, which I had held for the previous 15 years. I`ll be 40 this year and she persuaded me to go for it and to chase my life time dream to go in to wildlife conservation. Last year with Terrie's help I enrolled at university, she had both emotionally and financially supported me 100% the entire time, never questioning or complaining about anything I have done, she is my rock. Terrie works over 40hrs a week to support us both and to be honest I could never again meet someone as special as her, she never asks for anything in return and she really inspires me every day to carry on, when I have finished I will make her proud of me, but she is truly a woman which I hope my children would aspire to be like.

I found this picture in my grandmother's house, about 2 years ago, when my mother and I were sorting her things out after she died. In the picture she's very young, before her marriage, and she's holding a mirror in her hands with a sort of distant, remote expression. It's the most accurate souvenir I have of her. My mother's mother was a difficult woman. She was strict, emotional, stubborn, anxious, with a very short temper and a fragile health. I couldn't understand her when I was little, in fact I didn't like her at all. We fought constantly. It was only with time that we learned how to talk to each other. She made up stories for me. She told me that, as a girl, she used to put rags in the keyhole and in the crack under the door of her room so that her mother wouldn't see the light streaming out and beat her for reading in the middle of the night. She told me how she met my grandfather before the war and how they had been engaged for 10 years before finally getting married. She told me about the people who lived in the building when they first moved in with their two daughters. She told me about that one time when my mother, age 3, had fallen headfirst into a barrel of water and almost drowned. She tried to remember the countless times she'd been ill. I found out that she could laugh and sing and love. She had been well-off, she had been poor, she had always worked without ever having a job, she loved reading and learning but she had to leave school. Together with my grandfather she raised two kids and supported them both through the university, always afraid of losing them, afraid her body would fail her. Instead she lived to be 88, and though she was still bitter and depressed at times, she could also find great joy in her family, her community, her life. I always think of her when something hits me too hard. To remember that the struggle isn't over.

This is was my gran Mary Dixon, she lived all her life in a tough area in Liverpool. She filled my childhood with happy memories of her constant laughing and always looking for the good in everyone - fantastic role model to all seven of her gran kids.
My Incredible Mother(14 of62)
This is my mother. She's inspirational because her big heart knows no limits and she goes out of her way to help anyone she meets. We're a very small family and she spent my childhood caring for my great nan, then each of my grandparents in turn as they fell ill. She had no life of her own but not once did she complain. In 2003 she was diagnosed with a brain tumour. She almost died but her fighting spirit carried her through and her concern was always with the welfare of myself, and my father. She's amazing.

She was one of the first women to go to university to study dentistry, and she had a lengthy and successful career. To be honest I inspired myself at age 51 years to take up fitness to stop high blood pressure and high cholesterol also depression, I made a concious decision to change my life for the better now I inspire others through training and diet lifestyle choices that they can too help to change th ageing process and make it easier to adapt to the changes in our lives as we age. I am not boasting about myself just stating that we should look within ourselves before we put others on a pedestal for inspiration!

This amazing individual is Dr Katarina Harrison Tvarozkova. She is an inspiration to all around her. Working tirelessly without complaint as an obstetrics and gynaecology registrar in NHS, saving countless babies lives, comforting and supporting all the women she sees above and beyond her medical expertise with kindness and warmth. Not only is she all these things and more but also my best friend and wife, not forgetting just how beautiful she is on the outside as she is on the inside. I'm very proud, I'm very lucky and blessed to share my life with this inspirational woman.

My sister and I are incredibly close, she's my confidante, the person I call every day and the person who can talk me down from the biggest of temper tantrums. There are two instances that have brought us closer together - I call them broken heart problems. She, figuratively, when she went through a divorce a few years ago, and me last year when I had to have heart surgery. I love her, she is my strength and my rock, and I don't know what I'd do, or the person I would be without her. This pic is typical of us on holiday - our cab driver in India decided that traffic lights were optional.

The woman that inspires me the most is my 95 year old paternal grandmother Alicia Guerra. She is a true warrior, just like her last name. She is a survivor.In her native Cuba during the beginning of the communist regime in the late 50´s, as she told me in her own words, she “became weary of her prosaic life and longed for self-independence, world travel and adventure. During a time in which it was unheard of a woman with children to divorce, she did exactly that and immigrated to the US alone to find a better life for her and for the 3 small children (my father included) that she left behind. When she was in the US she held multiple jobs simultaneously to send money to Cuba for her children and little by little she managed to send visa petitions for her sons who themselves became heads of households in Cuba and brought the entire family to the US in mid. 80´s.She is a strong woman and survivor because she has outlived 2 of her sons, whom she buried here in the US, one who died of liver decease at age of 61 and the other pneumonia at the age 67 and yet she manages to wake up and care of her last remaining son who suffers from diabetes. Her mind is intact; she still has good judgment and memory. She is an elderly woman and yet she still walks with grace. I am truly blessed to have as an inspiration my grandmother and I hope she lives many more so that my young child could remember her.

She pulled herself together, went through the surgeries, and even though she might be living with this condition for the rest of her life is an absolute champ. Marvellous Mel(42 of62)
This is Mel, one of my closest friends. Mel is quite literally a life saver. I met Mel when I used to run a small animal rescue organisation. We worked on a number of rescues together, until my health took me out of the game.Mel's one of the most loyal people I know. When I had no one to help me, she used to travel half way across the country just to take me to my solicitor. She was crucial also in quite literally saving my own life.There are a lot of things about Mel that I find inspirational. She had to give up work, due to suffering from crippling Fibromyalgia. She doesn't let this stop her though; when something important needs doing, Mel is there doing it. She participates in protests and still runs the home based, not for profit, small animal rescue, despite the fact that such things put her in bed to recover for days. She's so good at the rescue work that other rescue organisations frequently turn to her for help. And she offers her time volunteering for charities when she is able to, also. And, how many people do you know who care for their ex-partner? He suffers with severe mal epileptic fits, and has other health problems that mean he can never be left alone. He shares Mel's house with her. She ensures that someone is there to be with him whenever she cannot be.One further thing I admire Mel for is the maturity with which she handles relationships. She's poly. It's a very complicated lifestyle. If I were in her shoes I'd be incredibly jealous, and totally screwed up, but Mel knows exactly who she is and where she stands with everyone. I only wish that the openness, maturity, and discussion that happens in poly relationships, would happen in mono relationships too.

Well apart from my Mum, daughter Grace, sister Lisa and plucky inspirational friends, Lynne Huitson, Jane McLaughlin, Sarah Monaghan and Holly Caulfield.... it's got to be Kirsty, mother of one and founder of Uniquely Organic Ecospa in Hove pictured getting married in Ibiza last month. Still in her mid-twenties she founded the award-winning spa and her intuitive blog inspired me, after a very sad and difficult break-up, and led me to her 'Explore your true potential' workshops and reiki, plus the amazing chakra massages she developed. She's truly helped me, and many others, on a path of self-discovery and 'healing' and opened my eyes to live in the now. Kirsty, you are amazing! x

To many, my mom is the wife of a former governor (1991) in my country or a carer of women in our local community or a very great cook. But to me, she is my hero. When I was 7, on mother's day a gas cylinder exploded outside my house while my mom was preparing prawn crackers for our church. My bedroom was the closest to the raging flames and the balcony had begun to burn. Now everyone was outside my house except for me because I was asleep and the path into the house was blocked by fire. Chaos broke, as everyone clamoured to put out the fire then my mom remembered I was in the house and there was only one way into the house. So my mom ran through the fire to get to me and even fell down the stairs but she kept going. When she got to my room she realised (thanking God), that I had snuck into my parent’s room to sleep as I usually did (very unaware of the chaos). The fire was put out but half of my mother’s face and her left hand were burnt. Although her face has healed with very little signs; her left hand is still scarred which serves as a reminder of the day my mom risked her life to save mine.This act not only shows me how deep love can truly be; it also inspires me to pursue being a woman of compassion not only to my unborn children but to everyone I am fortunate to meet in this life.
To many, my mom is the wife of a former governor (1991) in my country or a carer of women in our local community or a very great cook. But to me, she is my hero. When I was 7, on mother's day a gas cylinder exploded outside my house while my mom was preparing prawn crackers for our church. My bedroom was the closest to the raging flames and the balcony had begun to burn. Now everyone was outside my house except for me because I was asleep and the path into the house was blocked by fire. Chaos broke, as everyone clamoured to put out the fire then my mom remembered I was in the house and there was only one way into the house. So my mom ran through the fire to get to me and even fell down the stairs but she kept going. When she got to my room she realised (thanking God), that I had snuck into my parent’s room to sleep as I usually did (very unaware of the chaos). The fire was put out but half of my mother’s face and her left hand were burnt. My Mum(61 of62)
My mum is an inspiration, at 44 when my dad left us, she had to get a career and start again! She did so and looked after us even though it was a struggle. I am blessed and am inspired by her strength. She went from being a really meek lady to a very successful and fun loving, confident person to be around!
