International Lefthanders Day 2014: Everything You Need To Know About Being A Leftie

This Proves Being Left-Handed Is Pretty Awesome
|

What do Barack Obama, Paul McCartney, Bart Simpson, Angelina Jolie, Oprah Winfrey, Prince William and HuffPost UK's editor-in-chief Stephen Hull all have in common?

They're all left-handed - just like 10% of the world's population.

Today is International Lefthanders Day so we're celebrating the achievements of our leftie friends.

For thousands of years, being left-handed was associated with being 'touched by the devil,' but in the above video Tara Long tells us some interesting facts about being left-handed.

According to Tara, studies have shown that lefties are more likely to earn more, be more successful at sports and be more creative in general.

In reality, being left-handed is pretty awesome.

But despite many left-handed people literally running the world (we're looking at you,Obama), the below inforgraphic from Social Work Degree Center shows some of the every day things that lefties sometimes find difficult to do.

As 90% of the world’s population is right-handed, manufacturers often design products with the majority in mind.

Cutting with regular scissors is particularly hard for lefties, as the top blade often hides the cutting edge.

Using ring-bound notebooks is something us right-handed people wouldn’t think twice about, but the metal can get in the way for our left-handed friends.

And it’s not just stationary that proves problematic – sports equipment, computer mouses and suitable wrist watches are all hard to come by for lefties.

But if you’re a left-handed person, don’t despair – next time you’re struggling against the evil right-handed manufacturer, draw some comfort form the fact that you’re not alone…
