Did you ever sing your kids the old nursery rhyme which goes 'Papa's gonna buy you a diamond ring'?

Well, as per usual, Kanye West had to go one step further.

The rapper/designer/philosopher is apparently making a diamond ring to give to his daughter, one-year-old North West.

In fairness, Kanye isn't going it alone as an artisan jewellery manufacturer. He's enlisted the help of the more amply-qualified Lorraine Schwartz, who made Kim Kardashian's wedding ring, to create the perfect design for his baby daughter.

All very nice, but we can't help but think she'd prefer a gummy ring.

And we have to admit, we're a bit baffled by the logic behind the extravagant gift. According to a source speaking to HollywoodLife: "He will be the first man to put a ring on his girl's finger."

What's more, the band is being made for her wedding finger. Apparently, Kanye 'doesn't care' if anyone thinks it's weird. Haters gonna hate, right?

It brings back memories of our feature from earlier this year on purity balls, a US phenomenon in which pre-teen girls go through a pseudo-marriage ceremony with the fathers and receive a ring reflecting a pledge to keep their virginity until marriage.

What do you think - cute or creepy?

Context aside, the ring itself certainly sounds like a bobby dazzler, though. According to the source: "It's going to be princess cut with her name engraved in the band and will have the biggest diamond on it that she can possibly carry on her little finger."

And that's not the only pampering in store for North - US tabloids are reporting that mum Kim has enlisted a stylist to make sure her daughter's outfits are always on point.

In July, she told Elle that little Nori has already made her preference for neutral tones clear, eschewing the pinks and purples preferred by less tasteful babies. Didn't they hear? Pink is so over! Bring on the beige babygrows!

A one-year-old more on-trend than we could ever dream of being? This is like Suri Cruise all over again!
