The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge should be lumped in the same category as David and Victoria Beckham, an award-winning writer and former BBC corespondent has claimed.

Christopher Lee told the Daily MailKate and William don't have the "gravitas" to be anything other than celebrities. Ouch!

"They love bending down and talking to kids and doing ordinary things," he explained. "They are ordinary, but they are celebrities rather than old fashioned 'don't ask questions, don't touch me' royalty."

The author of Past, Present... And Future? had everyone in a bit of a tizz when he suggested Prince George would never become king and the gloss was already wearing off K-Middy.

However Lee isn't afraid of singing Prince Charles' praises. "He [Charles] will be a much, much better king than any of us believe.

"Forget about courtiers squeezing his toothpaste for him, this is a very intelligent man who questions the world around him," he said.

What do you rate? Are Kate and Wills just like any other showbiz couple?
