Lego has announced that it will launch a new set of toys based on The Simpsons.

LEGO SIMPSONS!

Company spokesperson Roar Rude Trangbaek said the sets would "appeal to fans of 'The Simpsons' family".

It's not known exactly what Lego sets will be released, though we're hoping for a Moe's Tavern set, a full-scale model of the Springfield Nuclear Plant, and - ideally - the Mr Burns Casino.

Many fans have long called for Lego versions of Marge, Homer, Bumblebee Man and the One Eye-browed Baby, with some even making their own versions (of admittedly varying quality) and uploading them YouTube.

However the news has not been as widely welcomed as some might have expected. On Lego's own community page, many fans said that they would be boycotting the new sets, arguing that they were not "age appropriate".

"I say no to Simpsons. It is not appropriate at all for LEGO's age group. It's not really appropriate for anyone. :/" said one fan.

"I don’t want to see LEGO, known for being child appropriate, change into something like this," said another.

Another fan shrewdly estimated that the sets, based on the most popular primetime cartoon in the world, would make "less than $100" for the company.

Others pointed out that Lego already makes sets aimed specifically at adults, and that many of its most popular lines (including Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and the Marvel/DC Super Heroes series) had adult themes.
