Nothing is more Christmassy than pulling on some skates, donning a woolly hat and taking a turn about one of London's outdoor ice rinks.

Located in or around some of the city's most iconic landmarks, they offer a fresh and festive way to experience London.

Here is our round-up of the best seasonal ice rinks to visit this winter. But hurry, many close shortly after Christmas or in early January 2015.

So get your skates on, pronto! And don't forget to get yourself a mulled wine

The Hyde Park bandstand ice rink is the epitome of Christmas.

Crisp air, a beautiful dome twinkling with lights, with hundreds of people trying not to clonk into each other - it marks the start of the festive season.

The only downside, is getting through the hell of Winter Wonderland crowds to get there. But it's totally worth it.

For pretty, inner city skating, this is it. It's surrounded by the beautiful old buildings of South Kensington, with the trees framing the rink.
This place is never too crowded and a decent sized rink means you do a lap and still rescue loved ones grimly clutching on to the rail.

Ice Rink Canary Wharf(04 of05)

Go on a Thursday night after work and you'll find an unbeatable atmosphere, helped by the packed bars that surround the venue - yes there's an audience.

The rink itself is fairly small but is big enough to whizz around fast and do pirouettes (if you're that way inclined).

The music is good, it's five minutes walk from Canary Wharf tube and the price isn't half bad either. The only downside is that because of the surrounding trees, the occasional perilous leaf will drop onto the rink in an attempt to trip you up. But this just adds to the excitement.

Under the twinkling lights of the London Eye, this rink is perfect for an evening skate.

The rink isn’t huge, but on a weeknight there’s space to triple axel/ fall on your arse to your heart’s content.

The 45-minute session flies by, so make sure you’re booted up and ready to go in good time.

After your session, walk along the river and grab a hot chocolate from one of the many food stalls.
