Melissa Joan Hart: Five Things You Need To Know

Melissa Joan Hart: Five Things You Need To Know
|

Melissa Joan Hart, everyone's favourite TV witch (screw you Mildred Hubble), has penned her very own book, Melissa Explains It All, see what she did there?

While you may think you already knew all you wanted to about this Nineties telly star, we bet'cha don't know what unusual pet she kept as a youngster, or her honest thoughts of James Van Der Beek. So in celebratation of her memoirs here's five things to swot up on about MJH...

1. There was a Clarissa Explains It All spin-off

After the show ended in 1994 (sugar, that makes us feel old!) spin-off series, Clarissa Now, was commissioned, unfortunately it never made it to air. *Sad face*. But guess what? There's a pilot episode on YouTube. Thank you internet.

2. She has surprising common ground with Joey and Chandler in Friends

In an interview with Radio Times in 1995 Melissa revealed she had a pet duck. An actual duck.

3. She's as grossed out by Dawson Leery as we are

Yeah Dawson from Dawson's Creek was meant to be a heartthrob, but we didn't see it. Neither does Melissa. In fact, James Van Der Beek was her first on screen kiss, and she didn't want him to be cast. "I know people think he's dreamy, but I never got the appeal," she says of him in her book. And even refers to him as "Van Der Blah". Lol.

4. She's snogged Ryan Reynolds

Melissa locked lips with the now Hollywood hunk after he presented her with an expensive Beluga watch as a gift - while filming a Sabrina The Teenage Witch movie. "He was 17 and I was, like, 19," she recently said on the Chelsea Lately show. "I was like, 'You're too young for me.' So I stopped his car... and i wasn't sure; am I gonna get mad at him?

"I wasn't sure so I just grabbed him and started kissing him. You get a piece of jewellery like that, you gotta make out with the guy!"

5. She had a "wild" phase

"I had some party days like we all do," she told ET onlineand confessed she'd experimented with cannabis, mushrooms and ecstasy - which she admitted to taking the night before her 1998 shoot with Maxim. "It was the one time in my career really that I really just overstepped boundaries," she said.
