Modern Family's Ariel Winter On Breast Reduction Surgery: 'I Was Uncomfortable And Tired Of Being Objectified'

Modern Family's Ariel Winter Opens Up On Breast Reduction Surgery Decision

Modern Family star, Ariel Winter, has opened up about her decision to undergo breast reduction surgery after she became sick of being objectified, struggled to find clothes that fit and suffered from severe back pain.

Winter, 17, who stars as Alex Dunphy in the TV series, has revealed how the rapid development of her breasts impacted her life so much that she felt a reduction was the only option.

The 17-year-old told Glamour that at the age of 15, her breasts filled an F cup. They developed "overnight", says the actress, but then they just "kept growing".

Winter found herself being hunched over on set and suffering from back pain, but the final nail in the coffin was the treatment she started receiving from the press - instead of focusing on her skills as an actress, the media would begin to comment on what she wore and her cleavage.

"It made me feel really uncomfortable because as women in the industry, we are totally over sexualised and treated like objects," said Winter.

Additionally, she found it difficult to find clothes that fitted her properly and noticed it was becoming increasingly difficult to be cast for roles because of her image.

The actress said her family were incredibly supportive of her decision to have breast reduction from a 32F to a 34D.

She explained that she wanted to be open about her reduction as she believes it can set a good example to other women.

"It’s something that I did to better my life and better my health and I think that that can benefit a lot of young girls. I have felt more happy with myself than I ever have," she said.
