A heavily pregnant mum delivered her baby daughter just two hours after cheating death in a head-on collision.

Matilda Davis was born four weeks early after her mum Sheryl, 33, was involved in a crash as she drove to her final ante-natal appointment.

Sheryl, from Hungerford, Berks, was airlifted to Swindon's Great Western Hospital after the accident. The shock of the crash caused Matilda's heartbeat to become irregular in the womb, and doctors made the decision to deliver her by emergency caesarean.

Her proud dad Tom, a software engineer, praised the emergency services saying: 'Fate smiled on our little family.'

He had raced to the scene of the crash after Sheryl phoned him from the roadside. He arrived to find Sheryl distraught and holding her baby bump, whilst the other driver was trapped inside their car.

Matilda weighed a healthy 6lb 12oz and was completely unharmed by the events. She is the couple's first baby.
