Nick Clegg is expected to tell the Liberal Democrat conference today that the rioting which hit parts of the UK over the summer was sparked by educational failure and poverty.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg will go on to reveal a £50million summer school plan to give young people preparation classes for secondary education, in a scheme he will say will get them 'ready for the challenges ahead.'

The Express reports that Mr Clegg will tell his party of his 'passion' for 'ensuring a fair start for every child', and his 'simple unquenchable belief' that 'every child can do good things, great things, if only we give them the opportunities they deserve.'

Mr Clegg will claim that many young people who 'go off the rails are the ones struggling years earlier'.

His summer school plan is designed to help children leaving primary school prepare themselves for the move to secondary education.

Do you think a two week preparation summer school sounds like a good idea?

Do you think it's workable?
