Christopher Dixon went on a lads' night out just days before his wedding - taking his baby daughter along too.

But he got so drunk, he LOST her on the way home and was so hungover he didn't realise she was missing for NINE HOURS.

After the 17-month-old was found abandoned in her pushchair in the street, he pleaded with police not to tell his fiancée, who had been on her hen night.

Dixon, 34, wept as he admitted child cruelty last week at Hull Crown Court. He said: "I'm sorry. It was a moment of madness."

Judge Michael Mettyear told him: "It is almost unbelievable a person could be so irresponsible.

You drank so much you forgot you had this child with you. It is absolutely shocking. I'm quite satisfied that in normal circumstances you are a loving father of this child. And I hope that now you are sober you are shocked by this behaviour, as other people will be.

"There could have been terrible consequences by what might have happened if a thoroughly decent man had not happened upon her and taken her to safety.

"If it had been somebody else, goodness knows what might have happened."

The judge added: "There's no criticism of the mother. She has been perfectly sensible."

The toddler was found by 18-year-old Joel Redhead at 3.30am. He said: "I was so shocked...it's something I'm not going to forget."

Dixon was given a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work. He must also pay £1,500 in fines and costs.

The court heard how he left his daughter in her pushchair as he staggered home after 12 bottles of lager.

When he woke up, he assumed he had left her with a friend and only discovered the shocking truth when he went to collect the child, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

The toddler was found by 18-year-old Joel Redhead at 3.30am. 'I was so shocked...it's something I'm not going to forget.'

Not entirely surprisingly, Dixon's wedding was called off but the couple are still seeing each other despite the episode.

They are being forced to live apart by authorities until a 'care meeting' has been held while the girl has been placed on a child protection plan by social services
