I am now in the third trimester of my twin pregnancy and I have found that you never really get used to being pregnant. Each week you encounter so many different changes to both your body and emotions. With each trimester I found that certain things confirmed to me that I was definitely pregnant (bump and wriggly babies aside) and I have listed a few of them below.

First trimester:

You know you're pregnant when...

  1. You wake up at 4am craving mint chocolate ice cream and a juicy burger
  2. You walk around, hand on stomach like you are an unexploded bomb
  3. You check yourself out every time you walk by a reflective surface to see if you have grown a baby bump yet

Second trimester:

You know you're pregnant when...

  1. You start to worry about how long it will be before you can no longer see your feet
  2. Shaving your legs seems akin to solving a Rubik's Cube
  3. When complete strangers walk up to you in the supermarket and decide to have a good feel of your bump, (seriously people, I am not Buddha, rubbing my belly will not bring you luck!)
  4. When heartburn is radiating from every inch of your body and the acidic, uncomfortable pain makes you want to begin a reign of evil
  5. Your chest size just keeps on growing and you feel sure that it has a sinister plan to take over the world, 1 cup size at a time...

Third trimester:

You know you're pregnant when...

  1. You sit down at a booth in a restaurant and find that your bump can't fit behind the table (at the same time both awkward and embarrassing!!!)
  2. You can't remember a time when your belly was free of stretch marks - seriously, mine looks like a battlefield, and the stretch marks are winning the war!
  3. When you realise summer is your enemy. Floaty dresses aside, when your feet and ankles start to swell in hot weather and you feel like you are cooking from the inside out you know it is a bad situation...someone get me a fan!
  4. Random old ladies walk up to you, give you the once over and proclaim (loudly) "any day now..." This happened to me a few days ago and being that if I make it to at least 36 or 37 weeks (which is my plan) I still have at least 5 or 6 weeks to go. It made me feel huge! Not really the boost to the ego I wanted... and really people, I am carrying twins, TWINS! Plus I have to say that although my bump may be huge, my butt is looking quite svelte
  5. You realise that your hormones have taken you over and once you start ranting, you just can't stop. Being pregnant = no filter!
  6. Every day you make an inconceivable (to the un-pregnant population) amount of trips to the bathroom (due to your little darlings using your bladder as their own personal cushion). This could be some kind of weird Olympic sport with the gold medal given to the pregnant woman who has made the most trips to the loo in a 24-hour period.
