Mum-to-be Kate Silverton presented her last BBC news broadcast today, and has headed off on maternity leave before she gives birth to her first baby.

Kate, 40, is due in the next few weeks. She has referred to her pregnancy as a 'miracle', admitting she didn't think she and husband, Michael Heron, would ever be parents after four failed rounds of IVF. They actually conceived naturally and announced their happy news in May.

The pregnant newsreader looked blooming as she presented her last show earlier, signing off with a giggle and huge grin, saying, 'goodbye from us both' and rubbing her bump.

She later took to Twitter to thank fans who had tweeted her good luck, and explain she actually fluffed her last lines as she was so emotional:

'Thank you all hugely I felt v self-conscious and fluffed the goodbye they'd scripted which caused much merriment #don'tadlibwhenemotional!'

Good luck from all at Parentdish, Kate and Michael!P
