The PS4 has becoming the fasting-selling games console in history.

The machine was released on Friday, one week after Microsoft's similarly powerful Xbox One.

According to the Gfk video games sales charts, more than 180,000 PS4s were sold in the UK in its first 24 hours, compared to 150,000 Xbox Ones. It was laster reported that as many as 250,000 PS4s were sold in the first weekend.

The PS4 beat the previous record holder as fastest-selling console - the Sony PSP handheld - to take the title of fastest-selling console ever.

As was also expected, however, Sony's exclusive software failed to make a dent in the very top of the charts. Killzone Shadow Fall hit numbner four, while platformer Knack came in 13th.

Alas even that was enough to beat Nintendo's remarkably brilliant Super Mario World 3D, which only reached 14 in the charts.

The top-selling game of the week overall was Call of Duty: Ghosts, gollowed by FIFA 14 and Battlefield 4.
