Ugly flat shoes (kooky, clunky and embellished to within an inch) are the trend du jour and Rachel Bilson is fully onboard.

Now, obviously, she's been our go-to for cutesy-cool style since she won us over in The O.C.but did you know the actress has also got her own footwear brand?

Bilson launched Shoemint.com with her stylist Nicole Chavez back in 2011 and in her latest interview with Glamour magazine, she reveals her favourite styles from the Spring/Summer 2014 collection and why she's all about comfortable flats.

Bilson describes the Jillian shoe from the new line as a "killer heel with an asymmetric lace-up detail and sharp geometric cutouts. It's made from super soft, rich suede in incredible colours."

So far, so fabulous. But on the matter of good ol' fashioned comfort, Bilson says: "I have my easy slip-on flats or flip-flops, but I also like to wear an ankle boot with a short dress or skirt in the summer. Shoes are usually the final touch I love to pick out when I'm getting dressed."

Yes, she's partial to a flat shoe - like the best of us - and she's even big on the Birkenstock trend: "I'm a fan of the Birkenstock. I love to be comfortable, and they make really cute styles and colours these days."

Amen to that, sister. We're definitely styling out single strap, double strap and clog style Birks this summer. They're clunky, androgynous and about as ugly as footwear comes - but we LOVE them.
