Every classroom has a Smart Alec who goes out of their way to get one over on their teacher, so it's nice to see the tables being turned.

In this fine example, a young upstart gave a deliberately curve ball answer to an exam question – only to have it thrown right back at him in hilarious fashion.

When the unnamed student in America realised he didn't know the correct answer to a poser about how atmospheric nitrogen can be used to determine the age of bones (Durr!), he responded in a way that no doubt had him polishing his knuckles on his blazer when he submitted it.

He wrote: "I have to be honest with you, I didn't go over this problem last night and didn't pay attention to it in class yesterday. I do not care about this, I don't even like science. But I do like you and I don't want to ruin our friendship."

He continued: "Since I do not know this, I have a question for you. I just started texting this girl and I know she thinks I'm cute but I don't really know how to start a conversation with so I was wondering if you have any ideas. Well that's all for now Mr. J but we will keep in touch."

But then Mr J stole the punchline with his response: "Impress her by talking about how atmospheric nitrogen can be used to age artifacts. Works for me every time."

Game, set and match to Mr J.
