These Ultra-Reflective Glasses Are Every Paparazzi's Worst Nightmare

Smart materials can turn the tables on those pesky photographers.

We can all argue until the cows come home over whether celebrities deserve the kind of spotlight they get from photographers but the simple truth is that it just can’t be pleasant.

To leave every single house, restaurant or building wearing sunglasses so you’re not immediately blinded by the hundreds of flashes that await you.

Well now celebrities might have a way of fighting back, and it’s all thanks to the genius of modern high-visibility materials.

Well now celebrities might have a way of fighting back, and it’s all thanks to the genius of modern high-visibility materials.

Eyewear designer Scott Urban has created a new pair of spectacles which he’s calling the “Reflectacles”.

They’re made by taking some of the most reflective materials available to buy and then wrapping it around the design. The result is that when viewed through a camera or when using a flash, the head of the wearer becomes almost completely bathed in a blinding light.

It’s a remarkably simple concept that makes use of an incredibly cool manufacturing process.

Many modern high-visibility surfaces appear smooth and flat but actually contain millions of tiny spheres which take the light directed at it and then immediately distribute it back in every direction.

According to Urban’s YouTube page he’ll be launching the glasses as a Kickstarter project in late October.
