Chair of the UK Council for Psychotherapy

Professor Andrew Samuels is Chair of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP, www.pschotherapy.org.uk), Professor of Analytical Psychology at the University of Essex, Visiting Clinical Professor of Psychoanalysis at New York University, Visiting Professor of Psychoanalytic Studies at Goldsmiths College, University of London, and Honorary Professor of Psychology and Therapeutic Studies at Roehampton University. He is registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council and was a member of its founding executive committee.

He is founder board member of the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. Holder in 2003 of the Hans W. Loewald Award of the International Federation for Psychoanalytic Education. Former Honorary Secretary of the International Association for Analytical Psychology. Former Scientific Associate, American Academy of Psychoanalysis. Co-founder of Psychotherapists and Counsellors for Social Responsibility and Founder Consultant Editor of Psychotherapy and Politics International.

He works internationally as a political and organisational consultant for a range of clients including political leaders and parties, activist groups, corporations, and the NHS. He has published over 120 papers and books that have been translated into nineteen languages. Publications include: Jung and the Post-Jungians (1985), The Father (1986), Critical Dictionary of Jungian Analysis (1986), The Plural Psyche: Personality, Morality and the Father (1989), Psychopathology: Contemporary Jungian Perspectives (1989), The Political Psyche (1993), and the award- winning Politics on the Couch: Citizenship and the Internal Life (2001).
